How to Care For Your HE Front Load Washing Machine

!±8± How to Care For Your HE Front Load Washing Machine

HE front load washing machines are more efficient and more advanced in technology than traditional top load washers. This type of washer is the preferred choice of household users seeking to cut back on energy and water consumption. Front loaders cost no less than 0. Depending on how nifty the features and dials incorporated in it are, you should more likely spend more than a thousand bucks.

Because of its hefty price, you would not want it to break down quite easily. For most front loaders, high maintenance is a must. This is the best time to find out how exactly you can prolong the life of your front loading washer.

Use only a small amount of HE detergent
Use HE detergent alone. These washers are designed to produce more friction with detergent residues causing them to form more suds than usual. HE detergents have been formulated to work in such a technology. This detergent will not cause suds accumulation or leave detergent residues that may inadvertently cause washer malfunction. According to experts, you need only to use a quarter of a tablespoon of high efficiency detergent. This is enough to wash a full laundry load.

Segregate your clothes first
If you are running heaps of laundry, you should separate them from the colored ones to the white ones not only to preserve the fabric of your clothes but also to be able to use your washer wisely. Separating your clothes to just the right amount of laundry per cycle can help you cut back on energy and water consumption. Some people put too much clothes in the drum causing the inability of the washer to clean clothes and drain water properly.

Keep the drum dry and leave the front door open
These washers are prone to mold and mildew formation. Never leave your clothes lying inside the drum or they will immediately form molds or smell moldy. Transfer them to the dryer pronto. After that, use a clean towel to dry the drum of your HE front load washing machine. Leave the door open for a few minutes until air has circulated properly inside.

Clean the lint filter and the water filter regularly and check water hoses for kinks
To ensure that there will be a good flow of water in the drum and a good drainage system, always check the water filter and lint filter and clean it regularly. Also check the water hoses if it is leaking or if there are any kinks.

Why Does My Air Conditioner Keep Freezing Up? Quick Tips to Fix This

!±8± Why Does My Air Conditioner Keep Freezing Up? Quick Tips to Fix This

If your air conditioner is constantly freezing up, it may be time for a maintenance check as it can permanently damage your unit.

Many people complain about their air conditioners freezing. There may be numerous reasons why this happens. There could be a constant leakage due to low refrigerant or Freon levels in the unit.

Due to this the coil starts to become very cold and sometimes ice starts forming on it. The ice acts as an insulator and it keeps growing gradually and there comes a time when it becomes a block of solid rock ice. If you keep running the unit in this condition it may damage the compressor of your air conditioner. The refrigerant levels should be checked once in a while to avoid such problem.

You can also turn off the compressor and let the fan run in order to melt the ice.

Another important tip to prevent freezing is that you should also make sure that the evaporator coil has a proper place to drain. Usually a hose or pipe is attached for draining. If the problem gets worse you must call for a repairman to find exactly where the leakage is and fix the problem.

One reason for the ice formation could be if the coil filter or the blower wheel in the furnace which needs to be kept clean for efficient cooling, becomes dirty.

A dirty filter restricts air flow which drops the cooling point of the coil below freezing point. All the vents should be frequently checked and kept clean. Changing the filters frequently is also a solution to avoid air conditioner from freezing. Using ducts that are too small for your unit can also be one of the reasons for the unit to freeze. Air conditioners may not operate well if the temperature at night gets too low.

Freeze up may occur in such cases also. Since outdoor temperature cannot be controlled, a temperature controlling device can be installed to make sure the unit works fine.

Replace Your Frigidaire Water Filters

!±8± Replace Your Frigidaire Water Filters

Before you buy Frigidaire water filters, let me share a little information with you. If you have a water dispenser or icemaker on your refrigerator, then, of course, you need to stick with the brand that will fit your system. Otherwise, you may have no protection at all.

But, what if you could get something better tasting and cleaner, right from your kitchen faucet? You might completely stop using your refrigerator's dispenser. When you also realize that what is coming out of that dispenser may be bad for your health, you may end up disconnecting it. That's what we did.

First of all, we were replacing the Frigidaire water filters every couple of months. The source of our water is a heavily polluted river. The amount of chlorine necessary to kill bacteria and control algae, particularly during the springtime, is very high. At times, we could see a yellow residue in cooking pots, glasses and the dog's water-bowls.

Since our refrigerator was equipped with a dispenser and we knew that the filter reduced some contaminants, we started using that water for drinking and cooking. At one time, we bought bottled, but we belong to an environmental group that has urged members to drink more tap-water, because of the pollution created by the bottles and the amount of natural resources used by the industry. Drinking from the tap is simply not possible in our home, without filtration.

Since we were replacing the cartridge so often, at a cost of about , I began doing a little research. I learned some things that you may find interesting.

The contaminant reduction varies according to the model number. For example SWF1CB reduces only chlorine and particulates. SWF2CB does not reduce chlorine, but it does reduce cysts, lead and some common herbicides and pesticides. None of the Frigidaire water filters reduce THMs, which are byproducts of chlorination and our exposure to them has been the subject of numerous scientific studies.

THMs or trihalomethanes are a group of chemical compounds. Several of them are known carcinogens. Exposure to any of them is bad for your health. They are released into the water supplies when chlorine interacts with bacteria.

I learned that some of the purifiers that attach directly to the kitchen faucet reduce chlorine, herbicides, pesticides, cysts, lead, THMs and a variety of other chemical carcinogens. So, I decided to buy one.

The replacement cartridges last about three times as long as the Frigidaire water filters and only cost more. Every six months or so, we get one delivered to our front door, because the company offers automatic shipment.

The taste is superior to anything that I have gotten from a refrigerator's dispenser. If I want it chilled, I simply put a water filled glass container (we got one free with the purchase) in the refrigerator.

I never liked drinking from the dispenser, anyway, because the water always tasted like last night's leftovers. Now that I stopped buying Frigidaire water filters, we have saved money and helped save the planet. Maybe, you should, too.
